From being one step away from retiring from professional football after suffering a cardiac arrest more than a year ago in the middle of a Euro Cup match, to returning to the elite of football and joining a 'top' club. After his time at Brentford, which gave him the opportunity to return to the field after leaving Inter Milan, Christian Eriksen reached an agreement to join Manchester United, at the request of Erik ten Hag.
David Ornstein, a journalist for 'The Athletic', exclusively reports on the signing of the Danish midfielder by the 'Red Devils', who arrives as a free agent and will sign for three seasons, although he will undergo a medical examination first.
As for the numbers, Eriksen's contract with the Old Trafford club will be for a substantial salary, very close to the 9 million he earned at Inter Milan years ago, and he will sign until June 2025.
With the 'wasps', and playing with a defibrillator implanted in his chest, Eriksen managed to complete eleven games and scored a goal, which he scored against Chelsea. In addition, he has been able to play again for his national team and confirmed that his physical condition is not a danger.
Ajacied DNA
Just a few months ago, Eriksen trained with Ajax under Ten Hag while looking to get fit again and define his future. And that's where he coincided and made good friends with the coach who will now be his new coach at United.
In fact, the Dutch club had considered re-signing the player who left them for Tottenham in 2013, although there were fears about his ability to perform at the highest level again due to his medical condition. All those fears have been ruled out.
Eriksen, who had to be resuscitated after collapsing in Denmark's match against Finland in the 2020 Euro Cup, is now equipped with an implantable automatic defibrillator. In total, he has made seven appearances since his return to the Premier League and has helped Brentford move away from the relegation zone and is now in 11th place, 12 points above the bottom three.
