Liverpool vs. Everton: the preview
Jürgen Klopp, who leads the highest scoring team in the current Premier League, struggled to score against their classic rival, who is fighting to stay in the top division. Thus, just past the hour mark of the Liverpool vs. Everton match, Andrew Robertson's providential appearance was key to scoring the 1-0 in the Merseyside Derby at Anfield.
Like any match of this magnitude, both teams shared offensive actions. But in the second half, the 'Reds' had the clearest chances on Jordan Pickford's goal. In this way, the home team relied on playing through the wings and short combinations to break through the blue wall that formed in front of the English goalkeeper.
Fabinho progressed through the center to open up space on the flank for Mohamed Salah. Then, the Egyptian delivered the ball to Divock Origi inside the box. Liverpool's forward returned the pass to the 'Pharaoh'. Then, Salah chipped the ball to the far post for Robertson to head it into the ground and beat Pickford.
Liverpool vs. Everton: the preview
Jürgen Klopp's team remains dominant against any opponent and still has a chance to win the league title. However, due to the point difference with Manchester City, the 'Reds' cannot afford to fail in the remaining matches. Each performance will be crucial.
During the most recent stretch of the current campaign, Liverpool has gone undefeated in nine matches (seven wins and two draws). The last time the club suffered a defeat was on March 8th, at Anfield, when Inter Milan surprised them with a 1-0 victory in the Champions League round of 16.
In the English league, the 'Reds' suffered a defeat against Leicester (1-0) on December 28, 2021, and since then they have gone unbeaten in 13 matches. Thanks to their strong performance, the team also has the top scorer of the tournament in their ranks: Mohamed Salah with 22 goals. Diogo Jota and Sadio Mané are close behind with 15 and 14 goals respectively.
On the other hand, Everton has been flirting with relegation and they have the obligation to win in order to move away from Burnley, who are one point behind. In the last two matches, Frank Lampard's team defeated Manchester United (1-0) and drew with Leicester (1-1), results that gave them some breathing room.
To escape from their current slump, 'The Toffees' rely on the excellent form of Richarlison, who has scored seven goals in the Premier League season. The Brazilian will be accompanied by Alexander Iwobi and will have Fabian Delph as a creative partner.
