Steven Gerrard appointed as Aston Villa's new coach
The former Liverpool captain will have his first experience as a coach on the Premier League sidelines
Aston Villa announced on Thursday the appointment of Steven Gerrard, former Glasgow Rangers coach, as the new coach of the Premier League team, replacing Dean Smith, who was dismissed last week after five consecutive defeats.
The legendary former Liverpool player (186 goals in 710 games with the 'Reds') and the English national team, 41 years old, led Rangers to win the Scottish championship last year, where he arrived in 2018 in what was his first experience on the sidelines.
"The Aston Villa board of directors is pleased to announce Steven's appointment as head coach," the club currently occupying the 16th position in the Premier League announced in a statement.
This will be Gerrard's first experience on a Premier League sideline.
"Aston Villa is a club with a rich history and tradition in English football and I am tremendously proud to be their new coach," Gerrard said.
