Paris Saint Germain (PSG), once again, failed to achieve its ultimate goal: to become champion of the Champions League for the first time. If in 2022 they were eliminated by Real Madrid in the round of 16, this season they were knocked out by Bayern Munich in the same round. Not even their stars Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi could save them from the debacle.

After their elimination from the Champions League, the French press criticized the performance of the players, especially Mbappé and Messi. L'Equipe revealed that PSG plans to make changes in their squad and emphasized that for the next season, the French club wants to avoid problems with Financial Fair Play.

In that sense, the publication states that PSG will have to reduce their payroll amidst negotiations for the renewal with Messi, whose contract expires on June 30th.

"Regarding the Argentine, conversations are underway, but Paris is not willing to accept all imaginable requests to avoid getting trapped in the market again," it pointed out.

It was also reported that there will be a renewal in the upcoming season. Players like Frenchman Hugo Ekitike, and Spaniards Carlos Soler and Juan Bernat will be leaving the club.

Messi has not yet decided his future

If in Argentina they indicate that he is considering staying in France, in Spain they believe that Barcelona would have a chance to secure Messi's return. The truth is that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has not yet made a decision about his future.

The French press believes that PSG is Messi's first option amid rumors that he could join Inter Miami, Newell's Old Boys in Rosario, or Arab football where Cristiano Ronaldo already plays for Al Nassr.
