This Saturday, January 21st, marks four years since the death of Emiliano Sala , the Argentine forward who died at the age of 29 in a tragic plane crash over the English Channel in 2019 while heading to the United Kingdom to join Cardiff City, a Premier League club. The incident caused shockwaves in the world of football, especially in France, where the striker played, and it continues to be present in the memories of fans and players. As it is remembered, Emiliano Sala and 'Kiki' did not coincide in any team throughout their careers, but they faced each other on more than one occasion in Ligue 1 when the Argentine was playing for Nantes before moving to Cardiff.

Mbappé has always been concerned about the investigation of Sala's plane crash. He even contributed €30,000 to continue the search for the remains of the aircraft in the English Channel and find those responsible for the tragedy.

What happened to Emiliano Sala?

Emiliano Sala was destined to be one of the figures of international football. In 2019, Cardiff City from the Premier League bought his contract for €15 million. After passing the medical tests, Sala returned to France to say goodbye to his teammates and take some personal belongings he still had at the club. However, on the return flight on January 21st, where he was heading to England for his first training session, the plane disappeared.

The police conducted an extensive search for days in the areas where it was presumed the aircraft was until they stopped the search. This led many footballers, such as Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuaín, and Sergio Agüero, among others, to donate money to continue the investigation in the area.

It wasn't until February 4th that the wreckage of the aircraft and Emiliano Sala's body were found. He lost his life at the age of 28, and on this date, he is honored by the world of football.
