Hugo Lloris equals Manuel Neuer as the goalkeeper with the most World Cup appearances
French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris matched German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer on Wednesday, in the semi-final match against Morocco in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as the goalkeeper with the most appearances in the history of the World Cup with 19 games played on the field.
Lloris, who already won this tournament in Russia 2018, continues to etch his name in the history books of a competition in which he debuted against Uruguay in 2010 and has only been a substitute on two occasions: the third group stage match in 2018 against Denmark (0-0) and in the same stage of the tournament in Qatar 2022 against Tunisia (1-0); in both games, he was replaced by Steve Mandanda.
In the quarter-finals against England, with a 1-2 victory for France, he reached the record of international matches with the 'bleus', playing his 143rd match against the 'Three Lions', one more than defender Lilian Thuram.
The podium of this ranking is completed by Brazilian Cláudio Taffarel (18) and German Josef Maier (18).
