One of the best of the season. Christian Eriksen scored a great goal on Thursday in the match between Denmark and Croatia for the fifth matchday of Group 1 of the UEFA Nations League. The Manchester United player received a pass from Joakim Mahle in the middle of the field, turned to position himself and unleashed a powerful shot to find the back of the net.
The Danish goal meant the 1-1 tie in the match, after Borna Sosa had opened the scoring in the 49th minute. Eriksen's goal could have come from a different game, as he resolved it brilliantly in the worst moment of his team, who had no ideas and were unable to threaten the opponent's goal in the first 45 minutes.
But the visitor's joy didn't last long. Zlatko Dalic's team knew how to control the match, motivated by the chants of the fans in honor of Sime Vrsaljko, who recently announced his retirement from the Croatian national team. Croatia quickly recovered after the entry of Lovro Majer, who just one minute on the field sent the ball into the back of the net with a venomous shot from outside the area, which Kasper Schmeichel could do little to stop (79').
With this victory, Croatia takes first place in Group 1 with 10 points, one ahead of Denmark. France is in third place with 5 points and Austria is in fourth place with just one matchday remaining.
Christian Eriksen's team still has one last chance to try to take the lead in the group, but it won't be easy, as they don't control their own destiny. First, they must defeat France this Sunday at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, and they also need Croatia to have a negative result against Austria.
Before Thursday's match, the Nordic team had achieved a victory against France (away) and two more wins against Austria (home and away), but they suffered a defeat against Croatia in the first round of the group.
