New winds are blowing in the PSG. After several weeks of negotiations, the Parisian team officially announced their first signing for the next season: Vitinha, a midfielder who comes from Porto. This signing coincides with Mauricio Pochettino's departure, so this will be the beginning of a new era for the French team.
Vítor Machado Ferreira, the midfielder's full name, arrives in Ligue 1 after having a very successful season with the 'Dragões Azuis' in the Primeira Liga of Portugal, where he won the domestic league and the Cup. PSG paid 40 million for this signing, and it will be valid for five seasons, until 2027.
Vitinha arrives with a good reputation, as he not only had outstanding performances with Porto but also had good moments in the Premier League with Wolverhampton, where he was on loan during the 2020-21 season. In addition to PSG, teams like Manchester United and Bayern Munich were interested in his services.
French reports indicate one thing: the Portuguese arrives to be a starter and give a new face to the team's midfield, which will be led by Christophe Galtier, unless there are any setbacks. Pochettino's departure implies a renewal in the playing style and in some players who, based on what was seen in the 2021-22 season, are in need of competition. Wijnaldum, Leandro Paredes, Ander Herrera, Danilo, and Idrissa Gueye will have to fight for a starting position.
Pochettino's departure is approaching
What seemed impossible until a few weeks ago finally happened. After several meetings, PSG reached an economic agreement to terminate the contract with Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine's contract with the French club was supposed to last until June 2023, but after the failure of the past season, his departure was imminent and, according to the French press, it will be officially announced soon.
As reported by 'L'Équipe', the coach and the club's directors in the French capital had been meeting for the past two weeks, and finally, on Thursday, June 30, they reached an agreement to break the contract that tied them. Pochettino had been informed on June 10 that they would no longer count on his services, but he was not willing to settle for a lower compensation than what he was entitled to for the unilateral termination.
Thus, the recent negotiations led to an agreement where the Rosario-born coach will receive around 10 million euros, which he will have to share with his technical staff. Furthermore, the aforementioned French media revealed that the agreement for that amount was signed on the same Thursday and will be officially announced soon in a statement.
With Mauricio Pochettino's departure, PSG has a clear path to start their new sports project under the leadership of Christophe Galtier. The former Nice coach had reached an agreement with the Parisians last week, but it had not been announced yet because the Argentine was still officially part of the institution.
