The Olympique Marseille sanctioned by the Professional Football League

The Olympique Marseille has been sanctioned by the Professional Football League with one match behind closed doors due to the constant incidents caused by its fans during the classic match against Paris Saint-Germain, which took place on October 24th, for the 11th matchday of Ligue 1.

Incidents during the match

That match, which ended 0-0, had approximately 20 people arrested for various altercations. The first incident occurred when several fans confronted security after trying to force their way into the Stade Vélodrome when the gates were already closed.

During the match, the fans started throwing various objects at the PSG players. In addition, a fan invaded the pitch and ran towards Lionel Messi while the Argentinean had the ball at his feet.

Possible point deduction

For these reasons, the LFP's sanction could also result in a point deduction, considering that Marseille had already had two very similar incidents in the current French league season. The first one was against Nice on August 22nd and the second one against Angers on September 22nd.

Next match and current position

The next match for Olympique Marseille will be on November 28th against Troyes. At the moment, Jorge Sampaoli's team is in fourth place with 23 points, the same as the third-placed team (Nice) and one point behind the second-placed team (Lens).
