"Los Gallos" beat their opponent at Las Victorias Stadium and are promoted to the National League as champions
CHIQUIMULA --- Despite not playing in their usual stadium due to a punishment from the Disciplinary Body of the First Division League, CSD Zacapa had no problem and defeated Coatepeque in the second leg of the Clausura Tournament 2023 final, which was played at Las Victorias Stadium. With a 5-0 score, they overturned the series and won the title.
"Los Gallos", led by Erick González, showed their offensive power and took advantage of Coatepeque's mistakes to make a difference. With an overall score of 6-3, they declare themselves champions in the First Division League prior to the promotion to the National Football League.
In just seven minutes, Zacapa opened the scoring as the home team through Juan Carlos Escobar. He attacked from the left side and when he reached the area, he shot with his right foot, and the ball went in near the post to make it 1-0 in the afternoon. The fans who made the trip to Chiquimula to witness the comeback fully supported him.
Just before the end of the first half, Zacapa increased their lead. In a cross from the left side to the far post, Omar López appeared and made it 2-0 in the match, equaling the overall score in the series.
In the second half, Zacapa didn't give up. In a set-piece that was taken in the 56th minute, the ball hit the crossbar and Juan Carlos Escobar was there again to head the ball into the back of the net.
In the 63rd minute, the score became 4-0 with a great goal from Costa Rican player Frank Zamora. He took advantage of the space left by Coatepeque's defense and, as he entered the area, he chipped the ball over the opposing goalkeeper to score Zacapa's goal.
Finally, the score of the match became 5-0 thanks to César Madrid. In a play from the left side, the Zacapa player appeared without any marking and sent a powerful low shot to seal the score.
