Real Madrid is making important changes for the next season. One of the doubts was the continuity of Nacho Fernández, whose contract ends on June 30. It was speculated that he would go to Inter Milan, the finalist of the last Champions League. However, in an interview with RTVE, the Spanish defender confirmed that he will stay in the 'Casa Blanca' for at least one more season. He will remain at his beloved club for the 2023-24 campaign.
The Madrid-born footballer cleared up the doubts and confirmed that he will stay one more year in Carlo Ancelotti's team, until June 30, 2024, which brings him even closer to the possibility of completing his sports career as a player of a single club. Let's remember that he joined the most successful team in the Champions League in 2001 as a child.
"There are always offers, but I have decided to stay one more year. I am happy about it and really looking forward to continuing at Real Madrid," said Nacho from the Spanish national team's training camp, where he arrived after the injury of David García, who was a starter for Osasuna in the last season.
Fernández played 44 games for the 'white' club in the past season. He accumulated a total of almost 2700 minutes. These are important numbers considering that Antonio Rudiger joined Real Madrid last summer and the Italian coach's bet on Eduardo Camavinga as left-back during part of the campaign.
There were several factors that made Nacho doubt his stay in the team. But finally, he has decided to stay one more season as a first-team player, joining in 2009 under the management of José Mourinho. It has been 12 seasons for the player in the Bernabéu team. In total, he has played 319 matches and his record includes five 'Orejonas'.
Confirmed departures from Real Madrid
The 'white' club officially announced the departure of some players whose contracts expired at the end of the season. Marco Asensio was the first to be announced. Mariano and Eden Hazard will also leave. In the case of the Belgian, the contract was terminated by mutual agreement.
Karim Benzema's departure was the most heartfelt for Real Madrid: he leaves the club after 13 years. The French forward signed with Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia. This news increases the urgency of the Spanish team to find a forward for the next cycle.
