Four people have been arrested in Spain for allegedly hanging a doll with Vinicius Junior's shirt from a bridge in Madrid at the end of January, the police announced on Tuesday.

The arrests came two days after the 22-year-old Brazilian star was subjected to further racist abuse during a LaLiga match in Valencia, sparking outrage in the country and abroad.

These four people, arrested in Madrid, are considered alleged perpetrators of a "hate crime," the Spanish police said in a statement. Three of them are "active members of a radical group of supporters of a Madrid club," the note adds.

The doll, wearing a Vinicius Junior shirt, was found hanging, simulating a hanging, on January 26, after Real Madrid's 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, next to a banner that read "Madrid hates Real."

Following this incident, Real Madrid denounced a "regrettable and repugnant act of racism, xenophobia, and hatred against our player Vinicius," stating that they expected "all those responsible for such deplorable act to be held accountable." An investigation was immediately opened.

The investigations, based mainly on testimonies, allowed to determine that these four fans, who had been "identified during matches classified as high-risk within sport violence prevention devices," were the "alleged authors" of the events, according to the police.
