The FC Barcelona took action by expressing its "deep anger, indignation, and weariness" in the face of the reports disclosed on Monday, April 3, which claims that the president of LaLiga Santander, Javier Tebas, apparently provided the prosecution with a "false evidence" against the Catalan club in relation to the 'Negreira Case'. They have also requested the resignation of the organization's president.
"In view of the seriousness of the information that appeared today, Monday, in 'La Vanguardia', which links the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, as the executor in the presentation of false evidence to the Prosecution to incriminate our club, FC Barcelona wants to express its deep anger, indignation, and weariness." begins the statement of the 'Blaugrana' team.
In the document, Barça claims to have been the target of a campaign of harassment involving "a handful of media and commentators with more or less bad intentions and with LaLiga behind the scenes fueling the fire", accusing Tebas of condemning them before the facts are judged and expressing that the president of the organization "should resign".
According to the published report by the Spanish media outlet, the president of LaLiga presented evidence to the Prosecution accusing Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu of alleged offenses of unfair administration and misappropriation. To do this, he used documents that belonged to Josep Contreras, a former official of the culé club, who died in December 2022.
These documents referred to the names of Sandro, Román, and Josep María, insinuating that they referred to the two former presidents and the club's legal advisor during Bartomeu's presidency. However, Contreras' family clarified that they referred to Emilio Román, the deceased's lawyer; Ramon Rosell, an accountant for his companies; and Josep María, a former employee of Banca Catalana.
Javier Tebas responds to Barcelona
After Barça issued a statement demanding the resignation of Javier Tebas, as president of Spanish first division football, following the report by 'La Vanguardia', the accused leader took to social media to clarify all the accusations. He also expressed his intention not to resign, remaining firm in his position.
"FC Barcelona, before submitting the letter to the Prosecution, LaLiga's legal advisory informed the Delegate Commission on February 21 of the content of the letter and its documents. Rectification right requested from 'La Vanguardia'. Clarified and what about you?", Tebas stated through his Twitter account.
The president included in his message the burofax sent to La Vanguardia in order to refute. According to LaLiga, the request for resignation from Javier Tebas by the Catalans is based on a falsehood, since the top executive maintains that he has not provided any false evidence. Therefore, the headline and the assertion in question are completely wrong, according to what has been exposed.
