Barcelona has various objectives in the transfer market for the next season. The years go by and some players are closing cycles, such as Sergio Busquets. The Blaugranas are looking to sign a replacement midfielder, as the Spaniard's contract ends in June and he has not yet decided his situation in Catalonia. In light of this, there are already names on the list starting with Gündogan, who has initiated conversations.
The German midfielder's contract expires in June 2023 with Manchester City and he seems to have no signs of renewing in order to have a new experience in Europe. Images published on 'Jijantes' show that the player's agent met with Jordy Cruyff, the club's sports advisor.
Gündogan is free to negotiate, as he has not yet renewed with Pep Guardiola's team. Barcelona has already started managing what would be one of the most important transfers. Arriving on a free transfer would also provide financial relief.
On the other hand, Manchester City has also held talks to extend the player's contract and stay for at least one more season. Another detail is that, by signing, he could leave money in the club's coffers in terms of transfer costs.
For Barcelona, Gündogan is not the only option in midfield. The Blaugranas have a list of candidates they want to reinforce this area with: N’Golo Kanté, Rúben Neves, or Jorginho. However, the priority is Gündogan, who they have been pursuing since last season.
Interest in N’Golo Kanté
According to 'The Standard', Kanté wants to leave the Premier League and is waiting for Barcelona's decision on his possible signing. The French player has held various negotiations with his current team despite being injured and playing few minutes this season.
For the English club, his recovery is certain and they can have him back at his best level. Kanté is considered one of the best-performing players at Chelsea in recent years. Despite everything, the renewal proposal has not been entirely satisfactory and he is open to listening to offers.
