SANCTIONS FOR ATLETICO VS. BARCELONA MATCH
The confrontation between Atletico and Barcelona has resulted in a sanction from the Competition Committee of the Spanish Football Federation.
The Competition Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has suspended Atletico's Stefan Savic and Barcelona's Ferran Torres for two matches due to their confrontation in the league match between the two teams last weekend.
Both players were sent off in the final minutes of the match, which Barcelona won 1-0 at the Metropolitano last Sunday.
According to the match report, Savic was expelled for "continuously holding an opponent by the neck with excessive force, while the ball was in play but not within their reach to play it."
Ferran Torres also received a red card for "persistently grabbing an opponent by the hair, while the ball was in play but not within their reach to play it."
The Committee based its decision on article 130 of the disciplinary code of the RFEF, which punishes "violence in the game" to impose the sanction on the two players.
As a result, Barcelona will not be able to count on Ferran or Lewandowski, who is also serving another suspension, in their next league match against Getafe on January 21.
Atlético will also be without Savic next Sunday in their visit to Almeria. AFP
