The Espanyol lodged a complaint this Monday about the LaLiga Santander derby played against Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou (1-1), considering the improper alignment of the Blaugrana team due to the presence of Polish forward Robert Lewandowski in the starting eleven.

The blanquiazul club has requested, in a letter to the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the improper alignment of Lewandowski, as reported by Espanyol itself in a statement.

The Polish attacker was sanctioned with three matches after his expulsion against Osasuna and was unavailable for the derby last Saturday, but finally was able to play the match as the Central Administrative Court number 2 of Madrid granted him a precautionary suspension on Friday. The blanquiazul club described this decision as "unfair" at the time.

In the statement released this afternoon by Espanyol, the periquito club recalled that before the match, they "in good faith" notified both the referee of the match, Mateu Lahoz, and the Royal Spanish Football Federation. In any case, Lewandowski started the match.

The leaders of the blanquiazul entity insist that they will defend their interests "with all available resources". In addition, the Catalan club once again described this episode as a "blatant injustice" that, in their opinion, "endangers the essence of the competition".
