The RFEF mentioned that the players requested the dismissal of Jorge Vilda as head coach. However, upon learning that he would continue as coach, the athletes took this position arguing that the current situation of the team affects them "significantly" in their "emotional state" and their "health".

"The Federation is not going to accept any kind of pressure from any player when adopting measures of a sports nature. These types of maneuvers are far from exemplary and go against the values of football and sport and are harmful," the statement from the entity reads, explaining that the players communicated their decision through an email.

In the same line, the sports institution pointed out that resigning from the team has consequences. "According to current Spanish legislation, not responding to a call from the national team is considered a very serious offense and can result in penalties of between two and five years of disqualification," it added.

According to Marca, the fifteen players are Ainhoa Moraza (Atlético de Madrid), Patri Guijarro (Barcelona), Leila Ouahabi (Manchester City), Lucía García (Manchester United), Mapi León (Barcelona), Ona Batlle (Manchester United), Laia Aleixandri (Manchester City), Claudia Pina (Barcelona), Aitana Bonmatí (Barcelona), Andrea Pereira (América), Mariona Caldentey (Barcelona), Lola Gallardo (Atlético de Madrid), Nerea Eizaguirre (Real Sociedad), and Amaiur Sarriegi (Real Sociedad).

Director of women's football at the RFEF surprised by players' resignation

The director of women's football at the RFEF, Ana Álvarez, stated that the players' request for the dismissal of the coach is based on sporting issues. "They do not agree with the project, the idea of the game, or the coach's approach. They have never said that there was anything else," she declared to the press.

"They simply state in the statement that they are in a bad emotional or even health situation. From here, we would like them to recover as soon as possible, even to be available for the weekend, as there is a league," she added.
