Gerard Piqué is not having one of his best starts in LaLiga Santander. After four games played, the experienced 35-year-old center-back has not yet played a single minute for Barcelona in the current competition, as he has been considered a substitute by coach Xavi Hernández.
The confirmation of Ronald Araújo and the arrival of Andreas Christensen and Jules Koundé have led to Piqué not being used in Barcelona's matches so far. In addition, Eric García has received Xavi's support.
In this regard, former Barça player Carles Puyol supported Piqué and emphasized his experience on the field at his beloved club.
"He played many matches injured, he pushed himself and that takes its toll. The team has strengthened the defense very well, but Piqué is a great player and, if he is at a hundred percent, he will be extremely important for the team. He can also provide a lot of experience in the dressing room," Puyol said during the presentation of a football tournament.
Piqué is going through a situation similar to that of Jordi Alba, who has been on the bench for three consecutive matches. In this regard, Puyol said that both the center-back and the left-back are "competitive and winners," so he is "convinced" that Barça "will need them."
