Transfers 2022: Riqui Puig says goodbye to Barcelona to become a player for LA Galaxy in the MLS.

The blue and red team is in the process of reducing its salary mass. Barcelona announced, through its social media, that Riqui Puig is leaving the club and will be a new player for the Los Angeles Galaxy of the Major League Soccer. This way, the team led by Xavi Hernández says goodbye to the 22-year-old footballer.

Puig arrives at LA Galaxy as a star being a young promise. Barcelona, on the other hand, will not receive any profit from the transfer of the footballer, however, they reserve the repurchase right at the end of each season. In addition, in the event of a future sale, the Blaugranas would earn 50 percent of the fee.

Alongside Riqui Puig, considered a franchise footballer, are Chichcarito Hernández and the Brazilian Douglas Costa, thus covering the maximum allowed by the MLS. Now, with the arrival of the Spanish player, Kevin Cabral's departure would be closer.

The 22-year-old player was important for a while in 'Barca', but he failed to be considered by Xavi, so the club sought his departure to curb expenses. Riqui Puig, represented by AC Talent, arrives in the MLS with the aim of improving the quality of the North American league with a view to the 2026 World Cup.

Regarding numbers, Puig played a total of 62 official matches, accumulated 1876 minutes, scored two goals, provided three assists, and won LaLiga Santander 2018-19 and the Copa del Rey 2020-21 as a blaugrana.

LA Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said to the press, "Riqui is a very technical and well-educated player with incredible experiences for his age. He will fit perfectly into our group and style of play."

The Galaxy, five-time MLS champions, currently occupies the ninth position in the Western Conference. They have been overshadowed by their city rival LAFC, leaders of the league's overall table, and who have incorporated veteran European stars Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini during the summer.
