Barcelona takes advantage of the Joan Gamper Trophy to present the squad to its fans before the official start of the new season. From the 'Azulgranas' board of directors they looked for an opponent and finally it was confirmed: they will face Pumas UNAM from Mexico on August 7 (1:00 p.m. Peru time).
Remember that originally, the team led by Xavi Hernández was going to face Roma from Italy (August 6), but the team headed by José Mourinho chose to cancel their participation. According to the statement issued by the Roman team, the decision was due to a change in the planning of their friendly matches.
In view of these circumstances, Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, and his board of directors analyzed other options. Finally, they secured the match against Pumas, a club that has had regular prominence in the Mexican League in recent times, under the guidance of coach Andres Lillini.
Remember that the 'Culés' already have a list of friendly matches as part of the preseason, all scheduled for the month of July: Olot from Spain (July 13), Inter Miami (July 19), Real Madrid (July 23), Juventus (July 26), and New York Red Bulls (July 30).
Presentation of Barcelona women's team
Similarly, the Barcelona women's team will also compete in the Joan Gamper Trophy: they will face Montpellier HSC at the Johan Cruyff Stadium on August 23 at 1:00 p.m. Peru time. The French team is coached by Yannick Chandioux, for the fifth season, and their squad includes names such as German forward Lena Petermann, Slovak midfielder Dominika Škorvánková, and French player Faustine Robert.
