When the guest list of the Peruvian National Team for Qatar (in the face of the playoff against Australia) was revealed, one of the attendees that caught attention was Joel Raffo, president of Sporting Cristal, who explained his presence on the plane that took the national footballers to Doha for the World Cup qualification match.
"I went on a trip. I paid for my ticket to Madrid. I met with the delegation in Barcelona and boarded the plane to Doha to work for Peruvian football, for the reforms we are seeking, to bring knowledge from other places in order to start changing the Professional League," said the executive in a press conference.
On the other hand, the president of Sporting Cristal acknowledged that there was a mistake in not communicating the work he was going to do abroad, where he had the opportunity to hold meetings with important teams from around the world to acquire knowledge about their management.
"In Madrid, I had work days with teams from the Spanish League to bring that knowledge and put it into practice in favor of Peruvian football. I acknowledge the club's error, and my own personally, in not communicating it in a timely manner. We have had shortcomings in that regard, and we are willing to correct them," he added.
Joel Raffo also referred to the statement made by former directors criticizing his position on the current situation at the FPF. He even confessed that more than one signatory contacted him to apologize for the measure taken, a few days ago.
"There are former directors who have come to apologize and I will accept them. We need to start changing and stop having false morals and issuing statements that lead nowhere. I bought the club and gave it the value it really had. Let's talk with actions and start building what the Bentín family left us: a family. We have a goal to work for the club," he concluded.
