New horizons. Italian coach Gennaro Gattuso confirmed on Wednesday, upon his arrival at Manises airport, his signing with Valencia and expressed his pride in joining a club with over a hundred years of history.
"I am very happy, it's my first time in Valencia and I'm very content, very proud. I have signed a contract with a centennial team, with a lot of history, and it's an honor," said Gennaro Gattuso in response to questions from the media.
Gattuso was welcomed by Valencia staff and a few fans who celebrated his appearance at the terminal after landing from a flight from Malaga.
Valencia is ready to announce Gennaro Gattuso
"The fans are eager, I am too, and tomorrow we will talk about everything in the press conference and then we will work very hard," said the former Napoli and AC Milan coach.
In fact, the club posted an image on social media showing the coach facing away at Mestalla Stadium. The official announcement is imminent.
It should be noted that the LaLiga Santander club dismissed José Bordalás as the head coach of the first team on Friday.
"Valencia announces that José Bordalás has finished his tenure as coach of the first team," the team wrote in a brief statement.
Additionally, they stated that "the club wants to thank him for all his work and dedication during his time as a Valencia coach, in which the team qualified for the Copa del Rey final, and wishes him the best of luck in his career."
Bordalás had one more year on his contract but was not happy with the entity's transfer strategy. The 58-year-old Alicante native had arrived a year ago after a lengthy process in Getafe. (EFE/AFP)
