With a goal from Colombian forward Rafael Santos Borré, Frankfurt defeats Barcelona 2-0 at Camp Nou, in the quarterfinals of the Europa League. With the result, the German team is securing their spot in the semifinals.
The German team would end up causing a surprise in the competition, knocking out Barcelona. The victory in Spain was 3-2, and the aggregate score was 4-3. In Germany, Frankfurt had drawn 1-1.
Appealing to a game with a lot of deployment and counterattacks, Eintracht Frankfurt found the first goal through Filip Kostic's penalty (4'). Barcelona went out to look for the equalizer, but due to the spaces left in defense and passivity in marking, Rafael Santos Borré scored the 2-0 (36').
The match ended with Kostic's brace (67'). The blues and reds reduced the difference with Busquets' goal (90') and Depay's (90+11'), but it was not enough for a draw or qualification. The blues and reds suffer another painful blow since Xavi Hernández's arrival.
The Europa League semifinals will be played between West Ham and Eintracht Frankfurt, and Leipzig and Rangers. The first leg matches will be played on April 28th and the second leg on May 5th.
