Pārameterization with electricity, alternative to air pollution
In the long run, a reliance on fossil fuels is not sustainable for the Ecuadorian archipelago located 1,000 km off the continental coast.
The Colombian company Concepto Diesel has deployed a full range of equipment: two 750 kW generators, a 1 MWh lithium ion battery system, solar panels, a substation, and nine permanent-generation plants with capacities ranging from 30 to 750 kW.
The initiative, which will serve 24 hour power throughout the Galapagos Island for a capacity of 1 MWh per day, marks the first installation under a contract to eliminate dependence on a diesel power in the archipelago.
The company's project manager, Andrés Vega, explained that they held meetings in Quito with a range of officials, including the vice president of Ecuador, Otto Sonnenholzner, and the Minister for Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources, Carlos Pérez, to explain the alternative
Vega also anticipates further projects throughout Latin America as fossil fuel reliance continues to decline.
