Gonzalo Plata took a turn by going to play in Qatar and coach Félix Sánchez gave his perspective on the player.
The Tri coach spoke at the 'DV Sports Summit Banco Guayaquil' event, where he took the opportunity to talk about the attacker's decision to go to Al-Sadd.
The Spanish coach gave his opinion on the Ecuadorian's choice: "Players have their contracts, they change clubs, and obviously we always want the best for them so they can help the national team and we want them to go to the most competitive leagues possible, but the Qatari league is not one of them."
Sánchez highlighted the Qatari league: "I've been there, Qatar is a wonderful country with a great football project, but well, in the end, players make their decisions and surely it is the most appropriate for him, that's why he's there."
"Hopefully it is the most appropriate for the national team, in the end, when we make the call-up, we will call up those we think can perform better. Obviously, the competitive environment where they are will also determine a lot whether they can be there or not," the coach of the Tri concluded.
Félix Sánchez showed his support for Gonzalo Plata's decision, although he is not 100% satisfied with him playing in Qatar at this age, considering that the Ecuadorian had two years in European football.
If the Ecuadorian stands out and his level is seen in great conditions, Sánchez will consider him for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
