It is inevitable that young people and adults have TikTok downloaded on their cell phones, one of the most used social networks worldwide. Their entertaining and short videos have made them one of the favorite apps among users.
Despite this, there is a state in the United States that has banned the use of this platform for a mysterious reason. Even violating this rule would result in a high fine. Which state is it and how much is the fine? Find out the details in the following note!
We are referring to the state of Montana, as its governor Greg Gianforte signed a bill last Wednesday, May 17, that partially prohibits the use of this Chinese app and will take effect on January 1, 2024. In this way, it became the first state in the American country to do so.
According to several sectors in the United States and the FBI, this drastic measure is due to a great concern that the company ByteDance, owner of TikTok, uses this app to carry out espionage on American territory to benefit the Chinese government.
"To protect the personal and private data of the residents of Montana from the Chinese Communist Party, I have banned TikTok in Montana," Gianforte posted on his Twitter account.
The ban is based on a report by Internet 2.0 researchers, indicating that the app collects information about the location, device brand, and which apps users are using.
If the imposed rule is violated, the fine would amount to US$10,000 for each day it is used. Is the state of Montana really in the right or have they exceeded the limits with this measure?
