An FBC Melgar that already knows what it's like to make history in this edition of the Copa Sudamericana will seek to break a new negative record when visiting Independiente del Valle, for the first leg of the semifinals, at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium in Quito. The Dominó does not have good memories of that city, as it lost all its previous matches in that venue.
The first time the rojinegros played an official match in the Ecuadorian capital was in the 1998 edition of the defunct Copa Conmebol. On that occasion, the partial advantage of 1-0 they achieved in the 30th minute of the match disappeared in the second half, when the local Liga de Quito turned the score around to 3-1.
Melgar's second experience in Quito soil was the most painful and it occurred in the 2019 Sudamericana. Against Universidad Católica, the mistiano team offered its worst international performance, losing heavily by 6-0.

Finally, in 2021 and again in the Copa Sudamericana, Aucas became the executioner of the Arequipeños by reversing an early 1-0 lead, with a goal from Bernardo Cuesta just 7 minutes into the match, to win 2-1. This defeat contributed to their elimination from the tournament.
