Looking to regain the level that earned him the nickname "El Mariscal," Franklin Guerra addressed the issue of the harsh criticism they have received on social media from a sector of Liga de Quito fans.
"Against Emelec, we showed defensive solidity and made specific mistakes in the match against Aucas. I slipped when they crossed the ball, but now we had a rematch and hope to continue like this. The team has shown a lot of strength. We set the goal of reaching the final at the beginning of the year and becoming champions. As LDU players, we will always go out to win and fight on all fronts," analyzed the defender in a chat with 'FB Radio' (105.7 FM).
"Defenders and goalkeepers can't afford to make mistakes because if we do, they score against us and we become villains. The match against Emelec was a new opportunity. What happened to me in the match against Aucas, in their goal, I think it was more of an accident than an error," he added before assessing the performance of Zaid Romero playing as a full-back: "Zaid had a great match in a position he is not very accustomed to in Liga," he added.
"For the entire defensive line of LDU, it is very important to have matches like yesterday's. We demonstrated solidity. Confidence is very important in football. The environment is very important for results to happen," praised the 30-year-old defender from Portoviejo, before confessing how they have dealt with the recent excessive criticism on social media.
"There are many people on social media who seek to harm the team. They compare players, insult, but these are the consequences and demands of defending the jersey of a big team like LDU. As players, we are assimilating the criticism and demands of the fans with a lot of maturity, that's why after the match against Aucas (1x1), even though they were complaining, we went to applaud and thank them for being there," Guerra emphasized.
Addressing the loyal fans of the only Ecuadorian team that has won the Copa Libertadores and the South American Recopa, Franklin asked them not to lose faith as the team is only 3 points behind the leader Aucas. "We ask LDU fans to familiarize themselves more with this group, to support us. To always go to the stadium, to all the matches, and accompany us, not only in the attractive ones," he concluded.
