Ecuador's national team continues its preparation for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and, on this occasion, faces Cabo Verde. From the beginning, the South American team showed superiority over their rival and, due to the pressure they imposed, opened the scoring.

In the 38th minute, after a long-range shot, the ball hit Deroy Duarte's hand in the area and the referee awarded a penalty. The Africans protested to the referee, however, the decision had already been made.

Jordy Caicedo took the ball and sent his shot to the center of the goal, while the goalkeeper dove to the left. The player celebrated with his teammates and then headed towards the stands to celebrate with the Ecuadorian fans who filled the Lockhart Stadium.

It is worth mentioning that the anticipation of the match was marked by FIFA's decision regarding the complaint filed by Chile against Byron Castillo and the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF). The governing body dismissed the claim by the Southerners on Friday and thereby confirmed the presence of the 'Tricolor' in Qatar 2022.

Ecuador vs. Cabo Verde

Gustavo Alfaro's coaching staff scheduled a series of matches to fine-tune details in preparation for the World Cup. The Ecuadorian team faces their third test after winning 1-0 against Nigeria (goal by Pervis Estupiñán) and drawing 0-0 with Mexico. The 'Tri' will face Qatar, Senegal, and the Netherlands in the World Cup.

On the other hand, Cabo Verde will arrive at this showdown after playing a couple of matches for qualification to the next African Cup. The 'Blue Sharks' lost 2-0 against Burkina Faso in their debut, but bounced back against Togo with a similar result.
