Byron Castillo has Ecuador's national team against the ropes due to the documentation problems reported by the Chilean National Professional Football Association (ANFP), which is seeking a FIFA ruling in his favor to have hopes of attending the Qatar World Cup. However, this is not the first time that the Barcelona SC defender has had this type of issue.
In 2015, he was investigated for documentation issues during his time in the U-17 national team. That same year, he was loaned to Emelec, but his contract was rescinded.
"On May 8, 2015, Club Sport Emelec received the outstanding player from the national U-17 team, Byron Castillo Segura, on loan. Once the controls regularly applied by the club in the sporting, medical, and legal aspects have been completed, the documentation submitted by the player has not passed the filters implemented by the club for its squad members," begins the blue team in a press release.

Likewise, they emphasized that this decision was made to prevent any sanction that could affect their "sporting interests". "Club Sport Emelec informs, in particular, that on July 28, 2015, it proceeded to terminate the loan agreement and return the player, as well as to continue enforcing strict internal controls before using any player who may be involved in situations that affect the sporting interests of our club. The mentioned player did not play in any match for the first team of Club Sport Emelec, neither as a starter nor as a substitute," concludes the statement.
He was called up by Ecuador again
After these incidents, he stayed away from youth competitions, but he was called up for training camps with the U-20 team without making it onto the final list for both the South American Championship and the World Cup of that category held in 2017.
