The goalkeeper Hamilton Piedra is the first reinforcement announced by the Manabita team of Manta FC for the 2021 season. The tuna fishermen returned to the top category of national soccer after six years in the B series.
Piedra, 27, born in Loja, joins the team from the port of Manabí after two seasons at Independiente del Valle, an institution where he failed to establish himself as a starter due to the high level shown by Jorge Pinos.
During his time at the Rayado del Valle squad, he managed to win the Copa Sudamericana in 2019, after defeating Colón de Santa Fe 3-1 in Asunción, Paraguay.
He made his professional debut in the A series of the national championship in 2011 with Deportivo Cuenca, where he stood out. He was called up to the Ecuadorian national team in October 2014 to play friendly matches against El Salvador and the United States.
He was also considered by the Argentine-Bolivian coach Gustavo Quinteros in the friendly matches as part of the preparation for the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup, a tournament in which Ecuador failed to qualify.(D)
