After four seasons at Macará, tricolor coach Paul Vélez decided not to continue with the team from Ambato after qualifying for the 2021 Copa Sudamericana. The coach has everything arranged to manage Delfín de Manta.
"Yes, it is practically decided and arranged, I just have to sign to be the coach of Delfín," revealed Vélez, who was chosen as the best coach of the national championship in 2018.
"My decision to leave was due to the way certain fans complained after the match with Orense (a 1-0 defeat at Bellavista). It was like being stabbed and I felt that was the moment to leave Macará," added the 49-year-old coach in an interview with Caracol radio.
He also highlighted: "You have to be very foolish to criticize the great work done by Macará's leadership."
During his time at Macará, he played in the Copa Libertadores in 2018 and 2020, and in the Sudamericana in 2019. (D)
