Barcelona SC is the Other Finalist of LigaPro Serie A-2020 Championship

Barcelona SC fell just short of the finals. Now, they have enough reasons to be the other finalist of the national championship LigaPro Serie A-2020 and compete for the title with Liga de Quito, winner of the first phase of the tournament.

The yellows reached the top of the table after Independiente del Valle's thrashing victory against Emelec (3-0) in an earlier match, and they confirmed themselves as the sole leaders despite their unquestionable 2-0 victory against Guayaquil City at the Monumental-Banco Pichincha stadium on Wednesday night, in the closing of the twelfth round.

Byron Castillo and Jonatan Álvez scored goals of great quality, with which the toreros reached 25 points and there are three rounds left to play in the current stage.

Barcelona SC was noticeably superior to its rival in the first half, while City sought to counterattack quickly to cause damage. Very little did the Pool Gavilánez's squad do to level the playing field and get a consolation goal.

The post saved the citizens on three occasions. Mario Pineida and Williams Riveros had a double attempt in the 19th minute, and Castillo almost hit the post with a right foot shot in the 24th minute.

Álvez also attempted to score the opening goal with a 'chip' in front of goalkeeper Daniel Viteri in the 34th minute but failed.

After the break, the goals and emotions arrived.

Castillo, who played as a winger today, broke the deadlock after a play with full-back Pedro Pablo Velasco in which both players traversed almost to the endline together. The younger of the two shot from an almost impossible angle and defeated "Mono" Viteri (47th minute) to sign the 1-0.

Thus, the Fabián Bustos-led team positioned itself as the undisputed leader.

Álvez, who ended a goal drought that dated back to September 27 of this year, when he scored the opening goal in the Clásico del Astillero in the previous round (1-1 draw at the Capwell), secured the result and sealed the yellow victory with a shot at medium height in the 50th minute.

In the next round, Bustos' team will face Aucas away from home.

"We don't know the ceiling of the team, I think we are in a good moment, we are close to that dream final and we must give it our all," said the BSC coach in the press conference after the match.
