Transfer season news: Ecuadorian Richard Huera signs with the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team
Riding the transfer season wave for 2021, the affiliate team of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA has secured the participation of Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Huera, the third rider from Ecuador to join the Spanish squad.
Huera joins Steven Haro in the affiliate team and Jefferson Cepeda, who already rode with the professional team La Vuelta a España in 2020.
At 21 years old, Huera will have his second international experience after riding in Colombia with Team Avinal GW.
Huera's latest race was the Vuelta al Ecuador, in which he competed with the national team. The rider, born in Playón de San Francisco (Sucumbíos), finished fourteenth in the general classification, fifth among the under-23 riders, and eighth in the mountain classification. He was one of the main domestiques for the race champion, Santiago Montenegro.

“Richard Huera comes from competing in the Vuelta al Ecuador, where he achieved three top-10 finishes (…) Despite being a climber, he also has a sprinting ability to perform well in reduced groups,” highlighted the Spanish team during their signing presentation.
Alongside the Ecuadorian, Colombian rider Jhon Alonso also joins, "both capable of shining in the mountains with interesting results in recent seasons," Caja Rural reported. (D)
