Barcelona SC, which scored three goals with headers against Macará, reached 21 points tied with Emelec at the top of the LeaguePro Serie A Phase 2 standings. However, Emelec retains the first place due to a higher goal difference.

One week before the second Clásico del Astillero of the 2020 season, Barcelona SC added spice to the final stretch of the championship with a victory over the Ambato team at the Monumental-Banco Pichincha stadium on the tenth matchday.

Tied on goal difference with the blue team (11 against 11), Fabián Bustos' team managed to win a match that was difficult for them in the first half due to the tactical disposition of the national coach Paúl Vélez: Macará defended with order and even created a scoring opportunity. Additionally, part of the field was wet and this affected the home team in several passages.

Earlier, in the 10th minute, the referee Jaime Sánchez stopped the match for a few moments as the players from both clubs remained silent in memory of Diego Armando Maradona, who passed away last Wednesday at the age of 60, while giant photographs of the football legend wearing the colors of Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors were displayed on the video scoreboard as a result of his friendly matches against Barcelona SC in Guayaquil in 1980 and 1981.

As captain of the team, the Argentinean naturalized Ecuadorian Damián Díaz wore an armband decorated with the colors of Guayaquil and an image of Maradona.

Barcelona SC won with goals in the second half from Paraguayan player Williams Riveros (minute 48), Uruguayan player Jonatan Álvez (72 min), and national defender Gustavo Vallecilla (80 min). All three players scored with headers.

Thanks to the victory, Barcelona SC reaches 21 points alongside Emelec, but Emelec has scored more goals in this second phase than Barcelona SC: 19 against 15.

At the end of the match, coach Bustos valued: "Set pieces and dead ball situations are also important to open up results and matches."
