Unión de Santa Fe wins 2-1 in their visit to Emelec and qualifies to the round of 16 of the 2020 Copa Sudamericana.

The goals of the heroic victory by Unión de Santa Fe were scored by Javier Cabrera at minute 20 and Federico Márquez from a penalty kick at minute 75. Facundo Barceló scored for Emelec at minute 61.

The Guayaquil team had won in the first leg 1-0 with a goal by the same Uruguayan player.

The Argentinian team will face Bahía from Brazil in the next phase, who secured their place by beating Melgar from Peru 4-0.

Unión dominated the entire game with an offensive proposal that Emelec never figured out, who only had control of the actions after the partial tie.

The millonario team, who had focused all their efforts on qualifying to the round of 16 today, against a rival that faced this stage of the Copa with a lack of rhythm due to the mandatory break (228 days until October 29 when the key was played in Argentine soil), will now have to dedicate all their efforts to the LigaPro tournament.

Led by Spanish coach Ismael Rescalvo, Emelec is having a shaky campaign this year, just six points away from the relegation zone, if it weren't for the poor season of Deportivo Cuenca and Orense, last and second-to-last, respectively.

Rescalvo's project hasn't taken off, being on the millonario bench since April 2019. After the exultant victory in Argentina and the away draw against Aucas, Emelec disappoints again in a Conmebol tournament.

The next challenge that the Rescalvo's team will have to face is on Sunday when the Blues host Universidad Católica at the Capwell stadium for the fifth round of Phase 2 of the LigaPro Serie A. (D)
