The leader of Movistar Team Ecuador, Jorge Luis Montenegro, wins "Challenge 04"

The leader of Movistar Team Ecuador, Jorge Luis Montenegro, won the road race called "Challenge 04", which took place in various areas of the Carchi province and included the participation of more than 250 cyclists from Ecuador and Colombia.

The current champion of the Vuelta al Ecuador clocked 34 minutes and 54 seconds to complete the 13-kilometer route that separates the Tufiño parish from the Lagunas Verdes area, where the competition was held.

The second place went to Colombian Robinson Chalapud (Team Medellín), who stopped the clock at 35 minutes and 56 seconds; while the podium was completed by Ecuadorian Byron Guamá (Team Best PC), with 36 minutes and 27 seconds.

Montenegro was happy and satisfied to be able to make his temple, as he baptized the Lagunas Verdes area, respected. This area is preferred by World Tour cyclists to prepare for international competitions where they compete with the world's elite.

"I'm very happy to make my temple respected and I have good feelings for the Vuelta al Ecuador to defend the title. We have done a good job, the weather was good, and I'm very happy. The idea is for people to get to know this part of Carchi," said the champion.

After crossing the finish line, Montenegro highlighted the good sensations he had throughout the course and the acceptable response of his body, despite being without competitions for almost six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the women's side, the winner was Miriam Núñez (Swapit-Agolico Cycling Pro Team) and she was followed on the podium by Angy Luna and Aura Pérez.

Other winners of the race were: Lady López (Bici Montañera), Nixon Rosero in the Youth category; Édison Chalapud (Máster A), Fidel Milcanguer (Máster B), and Edison Taquez (Poca Monta).

In October, the members of Movistar Team Ecuador will have a training camp where they will define the strategy for the defense of Montenegro's title in the Vuelta al Ecuador 2020. (D)
