While the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) reports that coach Jordi Cruyff has once again canceled his return to Ecuador, the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo indicates that the Spanish-Dutchman "has returned to Quito" and "has found a tremendous mess in the Federation."
'The future of Jordi Cruyff in the air', is the title of the main sports newspaper in the city of Barcelona, a note dated July 17 and updated at 07:18 local time.
Miguel Rico, who works as an adjunct to the director in said newspaper, points out that "Jordi's return to Quito comes with a great unknown. Knowing how (Antonio) Cordón's resignation (from the sports management of the FEF) will affect him, who blindly trusted him after experiencing Jordi's work firsthand in Chongqing Dangdai Lifan from China."
"We will see how everything evolves, but if things go wrong and being at the dates we are at, the feeling is that Jordi would quickly find a job in Europe," Rico adds.
The truth is that Johan Cruyff's son did not board the plane to come to Ecuador, where he was expected yesterday after canceling a flight scheduled for July 9. The secretary of the FEF, Gustavo Silikovich, told EL UNIVERSO that the coach of the national team would return to the country a week later since he could not do it on the scheduled day "due to a delicate family issue," so he agreed to do it on the 16th, yesterday Thursday.
However, the Communication Department of the entity alerted at 10:10 pm on Thursday, via Twitter and later by WhatsApp message, that "informed of personal reasons, Jordi Cruyff did not travel to Quito."
And, on Friday morning, board member Francisco Egas, in a dialogue with the Quito radio station Área Deportiva, confirmed the coach's disregard for the National Team. He also revealed that the coach asked for a two-day extension to think carefully about his future because he feels questioned in Ecuador.
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo opens up a range of job opportunities for Cruyff in case things go wrong at the FEF, since Spain is about to end the 2019-2020 LaLiga season and there is already a champion, Real Madrid.
"The feeling is that Jordi would quickly find a job in Europe. Here we are two and a half months away from starting a new season and his name is valued on the continent. Also at Barça, which has already tempted him before," Rico concludes his publication in Mundo Deportivo.
People close to Jordi Cruyff's work environment told EL UNIVERSO that the current coach of the National Team "did not board the plane, he took the COVID-19 tests; he was about to take the plane and did not board, and he called or wrote to the president (Egas), who rightfully got upset because everything was ready and planned."
