Alberto Spencer and Álex Aguinaga
Alberto Spencer and Álex Aguinaga have a similar history to Antonio Valencia in the specific aspect of returning to Ecuador to play after long stays abroad.
Magic Head did it in 1971, eleven years after his departure. El Güero did it after 15 years of absence, in 2004. And Toño took 14 years to return in 2019.
Spencer played for the last time in Peñarol on February 2, 1971, and 26 days later he made his debut in Barcelona, for the Copa Libertadores. That year, the "toreros" won the national championship with the decisive contribution of the player from Ancón, who scored 13 goals. He played Copa Libertadores semifinals in 1971 and 1972 before retiring.
Aguinaga also had a triumphant return to the country after being a symbol of the multi-champion Necaxa. With Liga de Quito, he scored 14 goals between 2004 and 2005, the year he was crowned with the "albos" in the Apertura tournament. The returns of these two representative figures of our football were better in titles, goals, and performance than the one Valencia had. (D)
