Images of deaths on the streets, some apparently victims of the coronavirus, have gone around the world. The international press is looking for testimonies of what is happening in Guayaquil, one was given by Walter Ayovi, former captain of the national team.
Ayovi, who resides in Monterrey, Mexico, recounted the concern he feels during this health crisis.
"In my country, Ecuador, things are uglier. People are hit by everything that is happening. It is something very critical, very complicated what is happening. Hopefully, this can be improved soon," said the former player in contact with ESPN.
"There, people are very affected economically and right now the country is going through very, but very complicated situations. The economic aspect will affect everyone there, let's see how they manage to move forward," added Ayovi, 40 years old.
The former footballer also did not hide his concern for his family living in the city. "Right now, we haven't heard of anyone being infected, we hope that the family continues to take care of themselves," he concluded. (D)
