The voice and joy that imposed day by day on each program he was on was turned off this Monday, March 30. Manuel Adolfo Varas (76 years old), lawyer and one of the recognized communicators of the country, died, thus mourning sports journalism.
Varas was one of the founding commentators of the Guayaquil radio station Caravana and over the years he participated in different programs of the station, being one of the first Caravana Deportiva, as Mario Canessa, who was also his partner, recounted.

According to the historian, Alberto Sánchez Varas, the deceased journalist came from a family of athletes, his father participated in the first edition of the Guayaquil-Posorja regatta. He was also part of the 9 de Octubre reserve team, he also played basketball for the Aguirre Abad team, among other teams.

In journalism, he worked for Radio Noticias, La Fabulosa and participated in the first election of the "Best Football Player" carried out by EL UNIVERSO in 1967, which was won by the then Barcelona defender, Luciano Macías.
"It is very regrettable that we have lost a great person like Manuel Aldolfo, we are all dismayed by this situation," Canessa, who is also a columnist for EL UNIVERSO, said.
The commentator pointed out that Varas was a victim of the coronavirus, a pandemic that has left thousands of deaths worldwide. (D)
