The goal scored by Fidel Martinez in Barcelona's 1-0 victory over Cerro Porteno of Paraguay, last Wednesday at the Monumental stadium, meant for the attacker to reach 16 goals and equal in the statistics with midfielder Patricio Urrutia as the top scorers in the Copa Libertadores, of Ecuadorian-born players.
Of Martinez's goals, six have been scored in this edition of the Copa, in which he remains the top scorer, after playing five matches since the first qualifying round.
Urrutia, from Rios, who has already retired from professional football, achieved his record with the shirt of Liga de Quito, the club for which he became captain and with which he became champion in the 2008 Libertadores.
With that scoring figure, both share second place, but they are far from the historical record of the legendary Alberto Spencer, who with 54 goals is the top scorer in the tournament's history.

The Conmebol, on its official website, reported that Carlos Juarez, also retired from professional football, and who was a reference for Emelec, has 17 goals; but, it explains that he is an Argentine naturalized Ecuadorian.
If Barcelona eliminates Cerro Porteno, in the third qualifying round (the second leg will be played next Wednesday in Asuncion), the canary club will access the group stage, where they will complete Group A with Flamengo from Brazil (current Libertadores champion), Independiente del Valle (Sudamericana runner-up) and Junior from Colombia.
In addition, on Conmebol's Twitter account, Martinez was nominated among the best players of the competition this week, and fans could vote among four nominees. (D)
