Emelec and Barcelona express common interests

Emelec and Barcelona are considered archrivals, but both clubs have more "common interests" than differences. This was expressed on Tuesday by Presidents Nassib Neme and Carlos Alejandro Alfaro Moreno, respectively, in a conversation organized by LigaPro that fostered a cordial dialogue between both.

One of those common interests is working to have away fans again in matches of the Clásico del Astillero, a situation that is currently restricted due to the violence of the hooligans.

This unusual meeting between the presidents of Barcelona and Emelec is a way, according to the leaders' perception, to "set an example of unity" to the fans.

But "for now, it seems complicated," said Alfaro Moreno about the return of away fans to the Monumental and the Capwell; and Neme agreed, saying, "I agree with Alejandro."

"I would like to see both (fans) in the stadiums and today it is difficult, honestly. For now, I see it as complicated, not because I don't want it. I would love it; I remember my first Clásico (26 years ago) in the Copa Libertadores, where the fans practically coexisted side by side, and it was a celebration," recalled Alfaro, former Barcelona player.

"Little by little, we must work towards the return of families and even hooligans to the stadium, but when we are convinced that there is peace in the stadiums. For now, I see the return of the away fans as distant," insisted Beto.

"When we are completely sure that it will be a spectacle on the field and in the stands, with absolute respect from the fans for all parties involved, we will certainly take the step," said Neme.

So, what can be done for now? "For now, we have to give some joint examples, the Emelec and Barcelona boards, so that this can be transmitted downwards. We must lead by example, something will reach the fans and they will behave in the same friendly and cordial way in which the presidents do," emphasized the blue executive.

Alfaro and Neme have shown not only in this conversation that a cordial approach can be achieved between the directors of Barcelona and Emelec, apart from the rivalry on the field. Even the canary president revealed that one of the first people to congratulate him when he won the club's elections in 2019 was the blue executive.

So, can we work together in football? "Yes, it is even an obligation. As leading teams in the province, we must radiate that: good relationships, unity. Obviously, when it comes to a Clásico, we are only sports rivals," said Alfaro.

Neme reinforced that criterion: "For me, the experience of sharing with the current Barcelona executives, especially with Alejandro Alfaro Moreno, has been enriching, although we have had meetings with boards before, this time there is a little more openness.
