Maximo Banguera will be goalkeeper for El Nacional this season. The 34-year-old from Guayaquil was presented along with defender Henry Cangá and forward Felipe Mejía as the new reinforcements for the Puros Criollos, who will compete in the Liga Pro, Copa Ecuador, and the Copa Sudamericana this year.
Banguera was sidelined by the board of directors of Barcelona Sporting Club, assuming at the beginning of last December. From there, he began to look for a team and reached an agreement with the Quito team, but did not sign until he rescinded his contract and reached an agreement with the Canarios for money owed to him since 2014.
"I will not talk about the Barcelona issue anymore, we tried to do things in the best way, but it couldn't be done; and now I am 100% devoted to El Nacional," commented the player.
Regarding the competition with Johan Padilla, the military's starting goalkeeper, Banguera said: "It is a pleasure for me to share a position with Padilla, as I said 5-6 months ago, today he is the best goalkeeper in Ecuadorian soccer. There is talent for the national team. It will be a healthy competition, we will learn from each other."
Meanwhile, Lucia Vallecilla, president of the military club, presented the players at the El Sauce Sports Complex, where the red team trains.
"I give you the warmest welcome, this is your home. You know that you can count on me and the Board of Directors, just as we count on you and your professionalism. I am proud to present you in the only Bi-tricampeon team in the national soccer," said Vallecilla.
The signings for the start of the campaign are also closed. "The average age of our squad is 25 years old and with these last 3 signings we close the contracts," said the leader.
Cangá (32 years old) and Mejía (24) come from the reigning national champion Delfín, a club where they failed to secure a starting position. (D)
