The economic theme was the main impediment in negotiating with Liga de Quito to sign left winger Marcos Caicedo. The Pachuca Group, owner of the player's sports rights, would only agree to lend the player if he was sold, explained Esteban Paz, a director of the university team.
The Mexicans sold 50% of the midfielder's pass in mid-2017 to Barcelona Sporting Club (the sum at that time was $1,500,000, as could be known) and the rest remained in their possession. This was achieved after reaching an agreement, in which it was stipulated that payments would be made in several installments, however, this was not fulfilled.
"I really like Marcos Caicedo's play, our intention and the player's intention was to link him to the club, but the economic distance is very wide, what Pachuca is asking for is beyond our reach," revealed Paz.
"We cannot mediate in the debt that exists between Barcelona and Pachuca (for the sale of their sports rights). Today there is an economic control (in LigaPro) and they limit us in signings," he added in an interview with radio station La Red in Quito.
The director also stated: "I know that many fans think that Liga's checkbook is huge but it is not like that, they do not know that sometimes we cannot sleep working until late at night to solve Liga's budget issue."
Before starting the Barça preseason, it was known that Caicedo, who has a contract with the team until this year, would not be considered by Barcelona's coach, Argentine Fabián Bustos, but he failed to sign with any team and today he joined the training in Manta.
Since 2017, a decline in the play of the left winger was evident, constantly throwing erratic passes or having problems linking his advances. (D)
