The goal for this year for the Ecuadorian Weightlifting Federation is to qualify for the next Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with the highest number of athletes and to try to achieve a medal in the world event.

As detailed by Luis Zambrano, president of the national weightlifting team: "One of the objectives in the current Olympic cycle is to position ourselves at a continental and world level, as one of the countries with the highest technical-sporting results, and the goal is to reach the Olympic podium in Tokyo2020."

According to Zambrano, among the athletes who have shown excellent potential are Juan David Guadamug, Benjamín Zurita, Kelin Jiménez, and Bella Paredes in the pre-junior category, while in the junior category there are Jair Reyes, Neiser Greta, Emily Anangonó, and Angie Palacios, and in the absolute category: Tamara Salazar, Neisi Dajomes, Alexandra Escobar, and Lisseth Ayoví.

The national director explained that in the 2019 season, Ecuador achieved a total of 216 medals, including 55 gold, 78 silver, and 83 bronze.

South American

The highest number of medals that tricolor weightlifting won in 2019 was in the South American Championships with 30 gold medals, 21 silver medals, and 24 bronze medals. (D)
