With great anticipation and the participation of 50 competitors, including women and men, the First National Roller Freestyle Ranking took place. The competition seeks to choose a representative from Ecuador to participate in the World Championship in 2021, in Argentina.
The roller freestyle competition consists of individual performances and each competitor has two opportunities to go through the track for 90 seconds, in which they must demonstrate their potential to the judges.
The competition has international parameters and regulations and is supported by the Ecuadorian Skating Federation.
The recently created Ecuadorian Roller Freestyle League detailed that the first ranking took place in the Ramón Unamuno Sports Complex in Guayaquil. Extreme skaters from Guayaquil, Quito, Cuenca, Manta, Milagro, and La Troncal participated.
The Ecuadorian representative will be defined by the sum of points from the three competitions that must take place in the skateparks of Quito, Cuenca, and Playas.
The League aims to send a representative to the World Roller Games in 2021, a skating world championship that welcomes selected athletes from different countries in various disciplines.
In the 2019 season, Ecuador participated in artistic skating, speed skating, skateboarding, and longboard. It is expected that roller freestyle or aggressive skating will also be included.
Currently, this discipline has a significant development worldwide, and it is expected that the activity will continue to gain strength in Ecuador.
Results
Among the results obtained in the sub-10 category, Daniela Valverde won; Luna González finished second, and Áxel Cornejo finished third. They are all from Guayakill Patina.
On the other hand, Jack Dávila from Willas Roller in Milagro won in the sub-15 category; Niurka Estupiñán finished second, and Germán Montoya finished third. Both are from Guayakill Patina.
In the sub-25 category, Jonathan Quintuña from Skid Acid Club in Cuenca triumphed; Kevin Cajas from Team Gore in Guayaquil finished second; and Isaac Ramón from Quito closed the podium.
On the other hand, Eduardo Ibáñez from Team Gore in Guayaquil won in the master category; Marco Caicedo from Suller School in Quito finished second; and Tyrone Coveña from Guayakill Patina finished third. (D)
