The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, confirmed on Saturday his country's interest in hosting the World Cup in 2030 together with Ecuador and Peru.
The proposal was launched on September 7 by the Ecuadorian president, Lenín Moreno, and until Duque's words neither Colombia nor Peru had publicly responded to the request to host the centenary of the World Cup.

"I told President Lenín Moreno that I support that initiative and I have instructed Doctor Ernesto Lucena (Sports Minister) to formalize that request with the Sports Minister of Ecuador, and with their counterparts in Peru, to host the World Cup," said the president in Barranquilla.
The first step will be taken during the visit to Colombia of CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez in October.
"It is not an easy competition, because it will be a competition with countries that have a lot of tradition and are very powerful in their sports infrastructure, but we will present ourselves with all determination, united," he said.

CONMEBOL is promoting that the 2030 World Cup be held in South America, coinciding with the centenary of the first World Cup held in Uruguay in 1930.
Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay were the first South American countries to apply, and then Chile joined. They appointed a committee in charge of advancing the process.
Among the Europeans, Spain and Portugal applied with the same objective.
The host of the 2030 World Cup will be announced during the FIFA Congress in Qatar, within the framework of the 2022 World Cup. (D)
