A Controversial Statement by Emelec Coach
A controversial statement made by Emelec coach, Ismael Rescalvo, after his team's (2-1) defeat against Macará last Sunday provoked criticism from the public opinion. Three journalists from Ambato described the Spaniard's words as misguided and added that they were desperate attempts.
After the game at Bellavista, the European strategist referred to Macará as "a team that plays primitive football," implying that they prioritize results over style. "I believe Emelec was superior to Macará," he commented.
"Rescalvo's words are desperate attempts," pointed out Pablo Ortega, a journalist from "Centro" radio. He added, "They are misguided concepts. Macará has a strategy: they defend very well based on a balanced game."
According to the journalist who has been covering Ambato's idol's training since 2011, "those statements are unfocused and a result of frustration due to the lack of results."
Commentator Igor Guzmán, from "Caracol" radio, agreed word for word with Ortega. "Rescalvo's statements are desperate attempts. I don't know if he thought about it, if it was part of his speech, but it was completely misguided," he said.
"We take what the coach said with a grain of salt because he tried to justify the lack of football effectiveness from his team, not from the players but from the collective game that doesn't have an established pattern, something that Rescalvo is responsible for," he added.
According to Guzmán, the celestial team -under the command of coach Paúl Vélez- "has achieved records in their sports history, such as beating 13 out of the 15 opponents they compete against in LigaPro."
Patrico Freire, from "Stereo Fiesta" radio station, didn't differ from his colleagues in his comment and pointed out that the Iberian's statement "falls into mediocrity." He added, "Macará has a 25-point difference from Emelec (52 against 27) and for the coach to say that, it doesn't make sense."
"Macará's success isn't a coincidence but the result of a planned process and work," added Freire.
Ambato's team is the leader of LigaPro and the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Meanwhile, the blues are in tenth place and are getting further away from the second stage of the tournament. (D)
