Deportivo Cali and America drew 0-0 at Palmaseca stadium for matchday 17 of Liga BetPlay 2023-II, but besides the result, the game had controversial refereeing decisions that generated discord among a large part of the fans, as the sugar growers could have achieved victory after a specific play.
Towards the end of the first half, Cali created a goal-scoring opportunity that ended with a goal from Luis 'Chino' Sandoval, but the play was reviewed by VAR and ultimately, they decided that another sugar grower player was offside, but when crossing the lines, the position of the players was not clear.
In the face of that controversy, renowned journalist Carlos Antonio Vélez joined the criticism and after analyzing the play, he decided to say that Sandoval's goal is legitimate and went against VAR for a poor line crossing.
"Quite convoluted the blue and red lines drawn to disallow a goal for Deportivo Cali. For me, 'Chino' Sandoval's position was legal. VAR definitely has a problem for every solution. Horrendous," Vélez stated through his X account.
